Based at the Medical School and Hospital of the Technical University of Munich, the medical imaging laboratory focuses on the propagation of new preclinical and clinical imaging technologies into healthcare.

Staff ExpertiseProf V. Ntziachristos‘ group has a world leading position in the development and use of fluorescence imaging methods for intraoperative and endoscopic imaging including miniaturized imaging scopes for intravascular imaging. This includes state-of-art hybrid fluorescence and X-ray tomography systems.

Previous involvement in Research ProgrammesThe Chair for Biological Imaging has supervised and trained about 45 PhD within third-party funded projects. IBMI hosted 3 Marie Curie Fellowships and is partner in 1 Marie Curie ITN and 1 Marie Curie IAPP Project.

Current Involvement in Research ProgrammesThe Institute for Biological Imaging is currently hosting a holder of 1 Marie Curie Fellowship and offers multiple courses at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and the Faculty of Medicine at TUM and the Helmholtz-HELENA graduate school. IBMI supervises PhD students from the graduate schools HELENA (Helmholtz Zentrum München) and the Graduate School for Information Science in Health (GSISH), the Medical Graduate Center (MGC) and the PhD Program of Medical Life Science and Technology of the TUM.
