Development of a Novel Optoacoustic (MSOT) Handheld Camera for Open Surgery
 
This work package will further develop MSOT imaging technology to provide optical detection of tumour margins at unprecedented depth during small animal surgery. If this can be performed successfully then such an instrument, combined with the appropriate probe, will ultimately improve patient outcome. Progress in MSOT technology at the TUM laboratories has produced cutting-edge technology capable of small animal imaging at high resolution as well as experimental handheld systems for flexibility. Our objective is to preclinically optimise an intraoperative MSOT prototype with the aim that it will lead to its use in the clinic (beyond timeline of this project).
