Skills Development

Personal Career Development Plan
Personal Career Development Plan of each trainee that will be established by the researcher together with the personal supervisor at the host organisation. The fellows will enhance their individual competence by acquiring new scientific and complementary skills, transnational mobility, and assuming management responsibilities in order to attain a leading position, in the basis of a clearly defined field of expertise, clearly defined deliverables, a clearly defined supervisor, and clearly defined research partners. Each partner participates in several collaborative WPs, which will allow the trainees to exchange know-how and research advances in a larger community on a daily basis. Besides the interdisciplinary cooperation in the WPs the secondees are also encouraged to seek external collaborations and other experienced researchers from the network, in order to enhance their research competences. After the individual project as the first level and the collaborative project as second level, the third level of the training provided by the consortium, will consist of network wide training activities comprising a series of events, e.g. workshops, summer schools, and topical lectures, organized through the network. Furthermore, to provide the Researchers with the best possible start for their future careers this project – apart from interdisciplinary training and thus complementary training for experts in very focused fields – this project will prepare the fellows with focused skills for scientific as well as industrial careers by a special training focus on cultural integration, ethics, legal aspects, knowledge transfer, grant writing, project management, and entrepreneurship.

Cultural Integration
Learning the local language and culture are important for a better integration in the daily life and in the local culture. The universities offer language courses, which the fellows will be encouraged to attend.

Ethics and legal aspects
Especially when working with human data, ethics on what to take care of and how to handle this data plays an important role. But besides the general ethical aspects, also the appropriate legal frameworks on an international level and of each country and hosting organisation have to be taken into account when using this data for research. The universities involved also offer courses on ethics and intellectual property rights in the fields of biology and computer science. In addition to these lectures, invited talks during the networking events will provide more in-depth information.

Grant writing
The researchers will be made aware of any call of proposals to request funding, at the national and international level, and will get advice about the application preparation, and project management. They will get advice on how to write successful grant proposals for science as well as application oriented projects by the academic and industrial partners.

Entrepreneurship
The exposure to our private sector partners adds a valuable view on exploitation of research results beyond academia. As mentioned previously, the participating SME companies do have close links to research. Additionally at a planned summer school, information and additional complementary skill lectures will be given in writing business plans, venture capital, and international company incubators, providing the attendants with a basic overview and skill set for entrepreneurship as a possible career path. For this network, entrepreneurship is stressed by actively involving all the companies in the research and training processes.
